GIVE FROM YOUR 401K OR IRA

You've worked hard and planned for retirement. Now, with a little creativity, you can leverage your retirement assets to benefit you and your family, reduce federal taxes, and support New Kingdom Trailriders far into the future.

How It Works

  • Name or designate New Kingdom Trailriders as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement plan.

  • Pass the balance of your retirement assets to New Kingdom Trailriders by contacting your plan administrator.

  • Important!  Tell New Kingdom Trailriders about your gift. Your plan administrator is not obligated to notify us, so if you don't tell us, we may not know.

70 ½ or older? Make a “Tax-Free” Gift Through Your IRA

Benefits

  • Continue to take regular lifetime withdrawals.

  • Maintain flexibility to change beneficiaries if your family's needs change during your lifetime.

  • Your heirs avoid the potential double taxation on the assets left in your retirement account.

IRA CHARITABLE
ROLLOVER

Use Your Traditional IRA to Make Your Charitable Gifts

The IRA Charitable Rollover provides you with an excellent opportunity to make a gift during your lifetime from an asset that would be subject to multiple levels of taxation if it remained in your taxable estate.

To qualify

  • You must be age 72; or older at the time of gift.

  • Transfers must be made directly from a traditional IRA account by your IRA administrator to New Kingdom Trailriders. Funds that are withdrawn by you and then contributed do NOT qualify. Gifts from 401k, 403b, SEP and other plans do not qualify.

  • Gifts must be outright. Distributions to donor-advised funds or life-income arrangements such as charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities do not qualify.

Benefits — qualified charitable distributions

  • Can total up to $100,000.

  • Are not included in your gross income for federal income tax purposes on your IRS Form 1040 (no charitable deduction is available, however).

  • Count towards your required minimum distribution for the year from your IRA.

Example

  • Suppose Jane wants to make a contribution to New Kingdom Trailriders. She has $500,000 in her IRA and she wants the contribution to be $20,000. She can authorize the administrator of her IRA to transfer $20,000 to New Kingdom Trailriders and $5,000 to herself. The $20,000 distributed to New Kingdom Trailriders will not be subject to federal tax and will be counted toward her annual minimum required distribution.

  • As you plan your required minimum distributions for this year, if you do not need the money the government is requiring you to take, consider using it for a charitable gift using the IRA Charitable Rollover.

GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE

How It Works

  • You deed your home, vacation home, undeveloped property, or commercial building to New Kingdom Trailriders.

  • You may continue to use the property rent-free, and then ownership passes to us when you no longer need it.

  • New Kingdom Trailriders may use the property or sell it and use the proceeds.

Benefits

  • You receive an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the real estate.

  • You pay no capital gains tax on the transfer.

  • You can direct the proceeds from your gift to a specific program at New Kingdom Trailriders.

GIFTS OF APPRECIATED STOCK

How It Works

  • You transfer appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares you have owned for more than one year to New Kingdom Trailriders.

  • New Kingdom Trailriders sells your securities and uses the proceeds for our programs.

  • Use our Stock Transfer Form to facilitate the gift.

Benefits

  • You receive an immediate income tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of transfer (even if you originally paid much less for them).

  • You pay no capital gains tax on the transfer when the stock is sold.

  • Giving appreciated stock can be more beneficial than giving cash. The "cost" of your gift is often less than the deduction you gain by making it.

CHARITABLE GIFT
ANNUITY

Charitable Gift Annuity

A charitable gift annuity is a simple agreement between you and New Kingdom Trailriders. In exchange for a gift of cash or appreciated assets, you receive fixed payments for life.

How It Works

  • New Kingdom Trailriders pays you, yourself and a spouse, or any two beneficiaries you name, fixed payments for life.

  • Beneficiaries are recommended to be at least 60 years of age at the time of the gift.

  • The remaining balance passes to NKT when the contract ends.

Benefits

  • Receive more income for your money because of higher rates.

  • Receive dependable cash-flow for life, regardless of fluctuations in the market.

  • In many cases, receive payments at a rate higher than the interest you are currently receiving on investments.

  • Receive an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of your gift.

  • A portion of your annuity payment will be tax-free for a number of years.

  • Are you a younger donor? Consider a deferred gift annuity.

DEFERRED GIFT
ANNUITY

How It Works

  • You transfer cash or securities to New Kingdom Trailriders. Our suggested minimum gift requirement is $10,000.

  • Beginning on a specified date in the future, New Kingdom Trailriders begins to pay you, or up to two annuitants you name, fixed annuity payments for life.

  • Generally, deferred gift annuities may be created by donors of any age. However, a beneficiary must be at least 40 years of age before deferred gift annuity payments commence.

  • The remaining balance passes to NKT when the contract ends.

Benefits

  • Deferral of payments permits a higher annuity rate and generates a larger charitable deduction.

  • You can schedule your annuity payments to begin when you need extra cash flow, such as retirement years.

  • Payments are guaranteed and fixed, regardless of fluctuations in the market.

  • The longer you elect to defer payments, the higher your payment will be.

  • is easy to arrange.

  • will not alter your current lifestyle in any way.

  • can be easily modified to address your changing needs.

Residual Gift Language

A residual bequest comes to us after your estate expenses and specific bequests are paid:

I give and devise to New Kingdom Trailriders (Tax ID #36-3344113), located in Sherrard, IL, all (or state a percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program).

Specific Gift Language

Naming New Kingdom Trailriders as a beneficiary of a specific amount from your estate is easy:

I give and devise to New Kingdom Trailriders (Tax ID #36-3344113), located in Sherrard, IL, the sum of $___________ (or asset) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program).

Contingent Gift Language

New Kingdom Trailriders or its affiliates can be named as a contingent beneficiary in your will or personal trust if one or more of your specific bequests cannot be fulfilled:

If (insert name) is not living at the time of my demise, I give and devise to New Kingdom Trailriders (Tax ID #36-3344113), located in Sherrard, IL, the sum of $ _______ (or all or a percentage of the residue of my estate) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program).

Retirement Plan Beneficiary Language

You may name New Kingdom Trailriders (Tax ID #36-3344113) as a beneficiary of your IRA or other qualified retirement benefits. Donors should consult with their tax advisor regarding the tax benefits of such gifts.

Naming New Kingdom Trailriders as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan asset such as a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh or profit-sharing pension plan will accomplish a charitable goal while realizing significant tax savings. It can be costly to pass such assets on to heirs because of heavy tax consequences. By naming New Kingdom Trailriders as a beneficiary of a retirement plan, the donor maintains complete control over the asset while living, but at the donor's death the plan passes to support New Kingdom Trailriders free of both estate and income taxes.

Making a charitable gift from your retirement plan is easy and should not cost you any attorney fees. Simply request a change-of-beneficiary form from your plan administrator. When you have finished, please return the form to your plan administrator and notify New Kingdom Trailriders.

  • The trust pays a percentage of the value of its principal, which is valued annually, to you or beneficiaries you name.

  • You may use your real estate to fund a charitable remainder unitrust (CRUT), which may be structured to provide lifetime income for you and/or others, or income for a term of years.

  • When the trust terminates, the remainder passes to New Kingdom Trailriders to be used as you have directed.

Benefits

  • Receive income for life or a term of years in return for your gift.

  • Receive an immediate income tax deduction for a portion of your contribution.

  • Pay no up-front capital gains tax on appreciated assets you give.
