How You Can Help

NKT provides a riding therapy program without the support of government funding. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) group, the programs at NKT have been sustained by the generosity of service groups, businesses, corporations, and individuals like you.

The long term future of NKT depends on larger financial donations and bequests for capital improvements and for endowment funds. Future needs and capital expenditures include purchasing property, building an indoor arena, expanding the riding programs, providing office and classroom space and trailer storage. An indoor arena is especially needed as it would protect our riders from being affected by inclement weather and would allow the riding season to be extended several months. All of these improvements would enhance NKT and provide the capability to offer more classes to the schools and community.

The extent by which we grow depends on the generosity of others. If you feel that this is a program you want to be a part of in a large or small way, there are any number of ways you can be involved. General donations are a great way as we have many daily expenditures which are always there including:

  • Feed & Hay for the horses
  • Medicine and Supplements for our horses as many of them are retired show horses
  • Postage and other office expenses

Another way you can donate is by the giving of yourself as a volunteer at any of our normal classes or special events. Even if you don’t have training or feel comfortable around horses, we have office positions and basic tack care.

Below are some of the more specific ways you can help us in our goal to bring care to the disabled community of the Quad City area.

Rider Scholarships

Sometimes a family wants to enroll in our program but the financial cost can be burden for some. While we are a non-profit organization, the base expenses can be a barrier of entry for some who really could benefit from the time spent on a horse.

If you would like to help donate to the scholarship fund you can do so here. The basic amounts are below for your reference.

The costs for a full season of riding is $2,500.00
The cost for 3 sessions of riding is $450.00
The cost for a single session is $150.00

Adopt-A-Horse

This is a simple way to sponsor a specific horse in our herd. Each year we offer up our horses for this program and you can donate at any of the levels below:

Grand Prix – $1,500
Trail – $500
Equestrian – $250
Pleasure Rider – $175
Lead Line – $100

Donate a horse

If you have, or know of someone who has a loved horse who would be good for gentle rides then NKT would love to have them. Any breed is open to our adoption, but 15 hands or lower is preferred for the ease of our riders and volunteers. The horse MUST have a good temperament and soundness. We accept horses on a 30-day trial basis to make sure they will work for our students and get along with our herd.

If you have a horse you would like to donate to New Kingdom, please fill out the form below and we will be in contact with you soon.

Ride-A-Thon

This annual event is a great way to sponsor a rider and see what is possible for them on the back of a horse! Watch as riders guide their horse through an obstacle course. Others will have the opportunity to take a trail ride out of the normal arena. 🙂

The event includes food, demo rides, and games for the family. The Ride-A-Thon is located at our riding arena at Schone’s Friendship Farm in Milan, IL.

If you would like to volunteer at our Ride-A-Thon, please fill out the form below and we will contact you soon!
